Love By Chance (BL) (T)

 

It was weird having the process the cast adjustments from this series (as compared to TharnType) but overall I really enjoyed this series way more than I thought I would!

I'm not going to get into the behind-the-scenes drama with the cast, because I am not informed enough to comment on it, and I don't really know all the details enough to have a real opinion. I am going to just talk about the cast in terms of their acting, etc.

Ae x Pete

To make this easier, I'm going to handle the pairs/characters in chunks. 

Ae (Perth Tanapon Sukumpantanasan) is literally such a good boy. Like, the best. He has some flaws, because he is young and he is learning, but I really loved his character. I liked how he stood up for justice and was kind to Pete and without prejudice. 

Pete (Saint Suppapong Udomkaekanjana) is also literally the best boy. He's so sweet and Saint is so precious, so it's hard not to love Pete. 

Ae and Pete together? HEAVEN. I could watch them forever, which sucks because I know that Saint doesn't return for Season 2. But, I'll deal with that pain later. 

Ae and Pete and so wholesome and wonderful together. Given the material by the same author, I was expecting more toxicity in their relationship and was pleasantly surprised that there really wasn't any. They deeply care for each other and it was a treasure to watch their friendship bloom into romance. I could watch them all day!

Tin x Can

Another pairing that I wasn't sure how I would feel about.

Tin (Mean Phiravich Attachitsataporn) is an asshole, but as the show progresses you really start to feel pity towards him and want the best for him. At first, I wasn't sure about him and Can getting together, but they are honestly perfect for each other. 

Can (Plan Rathavit Kijworalak) is so pure and unfiltered. He is crude and crass, but he always speaks his mind. He is exactly the kind of person that Tin can trust. 

Tin and Can also grew on me immensely. At the heart of it, Tin acts the way he does because, as Can tells him, he is an unloved child. People only want to get close to him/get to know him because of his family name. Even his own family doesn't care about him. The more they interact, Tin realizes that this dirty/foul-mouthed/average dude will believe him and will not lie to him. He begins to form trust. It was a little weird with Tin kisses Can against his wishes again and again, but at the end, Can is like YEAH let's do that again! Unfortunately, they don't get their happy ending (yet). Tin asks Can to be his boyfriend, and true to his nature, Can tells him that he doesn't know if he actually loves Tin. So, my heart broke for Tin, but I am hopeful for them in Season 2. 

Pond

I just want to give a shoutout to Ae's perverted best friend and roommate Pond (Yacht Patsit Permpoonsavat). This dude grew on me way more than I thought he would, similar to how Techno grew on me in TharnType. At first I was like WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT??? But eventually, I got nothing but love for Pond. He's a massive pervert (no shame) but he is absolutely a gentleman and such a sweetheart. He looks after his friends and is just the best character to me. I can't wait to see more of his evolution in Season 2!

I do want to take a moment to say that not everything was sunshine and roses. There was still a lot of drama between Tar and Tum, which is expected. However, there was some shady business with Techno and his younger brother's friend, who takes advantage of him when he is super drunk. Given the fact that the kid is still in high school and Techno is a senior at university, along with the fact that it was non-consensual, made me very uncomfortable. I am going to have to see what happens with all of these characters in Season 2 as well.
