While You Were Sleeping
I couldn't help myself... I just couldn't stay away from another Lee Jong-Suk drama....
One comment from my wife: "They talk a lot about poop in this one."
While You Were Sleeping is the story of two neighbors who dream about their future. That sounds kind of cute and romantic, but it's crazy.
This is another dramas that had my mood swinging, but in a way that kept me very interested and kept it very enjoyable. There were times when I was laughing like crazy then soon after that I was shedding sentimental tears, and then I was like WTF just happened!?!? Riveting.
Things are kind of Final Destination-y throughout the series, which makes for some intense drama scenes. Anyone could die at any moment but then could it be changed? Yes. Because it's a K-drama.
The cast for this series had me really excited, so I will do a brief rundown of some highlights at the end of this post.
Now. On to the story...
Nam Hong-Joo (Bae Suzy) has had premonitions in her dreams since she was young. Mostly it sounds pretty stressful. I mean, who doesn't want to have a dream about their dad dying knowing that it is going to come true and you can't stop it???? (No one.) Everything changes one day when two young men move in next door: Prosecutor Jung Jae-Chan (Lee Jong-Suk) and his younger brother Seung-Won (Shin Jae-Ha). Hong-Joo tells her mother about dreaming about the new neighbor, and she dreamed about hugging him - that means they are practically married in most K-dramas. Little does she know that Jae-Chan also had a dream about her. On a date with her (scuzzball) boyfriend (Lee Sang-Yeob), who just happens to be Jae-Chan's former tutor and is now an Attorney at his office, Hong-Joo starts to worry that something bad will happen to her mother and it will be all her fault. Her boyfriend, Lee Yoo-Beom (aka walking dumpster fire), offers to drive since it is snowing. As events are unfolding the way that Jae-Chan saw them, it seems like Yoo-Beom will run over a person on the way to check on her mom, then will frame her, causing her mother to die from overworking herself and Hong-Joo committing suicide. It's a lot. So Jae-Chan does what any normal person with deja vu would: he rams his brand new shiny car into those, causing a bad but much less fatal accident. Yoo-Beom loses his shit like wow dude can you even drive, while Hong-Joo sees her other dream coming true, of her walking across the road and hugging this stranger.
Thus we are off on a crazy adventure. The pedestrian they saved just happens to be the cutest police officer to ever walk the face of the earth, Han Woo-tak (Jung Hae-In). Now not only is Jae-Chan dreaming about Hong-Joo, but now Woo-Tak is dreaming about Jae-Chan.
