I couldn't help myself... I just couldn't stay away from another Lee Jong-Suk drama....  One comment from my wife: "They talk a lot about poop in this one."

My Holo Love

Image
My  Holo Love is a lukewarm drama  - and I don't mean that in a negative way. It felt like a watered down version of a few other dramas I have seen - and again, I don't mean that in a negative way. This story was a romantic drama that doesn't need you to be too invested for it to be enjoyable. I wasn't scrambling to get to the next episode, but I was also fine with just letting the episodes keep playing. Netflix has it listed as a "limited series", but I feel like they could have shaved off 3-4 episodes at least and it would have been fine. The storyline was full of tropes (this is part of why we watch them) but a lot of the dramatic points were much more dramatic than they needed to be and were too drawn out.  The basic plot of the drama revolves around a young woman named So-Yeon, who suffers from face blindness, and a young software developer who has the first successful AI, named Holo (because he appears as a holograph, get it? Love it.) Nan-Do, the develo...

Spotlight: Park Seo-Joon

Image
Park Seo-Joon (12/16/1998) This man is not a national treasure. He is a global - dare I say universal - treasure.  His acting range is phenomenal, and I feel confident saying that after only seeing a handful of his dramas. He can carry a comedy extremely well, and can absolutely break your heart the next moment.  There's a scene in Fight My Way where he is trying to laugh something off while holding back tears and he plays it so naturally. He is just so utterly charming it's unbelievable.  On top of this massive acting talent is his singing! His voice is soothing like a nice warm hug and it's always a treat to hear him on an OST. Be warned though, you will probably cry.  AND he's handsome. So handsome. Can't forget about that (how could you?). He is definitely someone I will hold dear to me for quite some time and I sincerely look forward to catching up on his past works and well as waiting for the future ones.  (It's also heartwarming t...

Meow: The Secret Boy; Welcome - ★

Image
MEOW... THE SECRET BOY..... OMG This drama is super super cute and a nice and lightly refreshing way to cope with 2020. First things first, we need to talk about the elephant in the room. Or the cat in the room, whichever you prefer. Yes, this is a story about a girl who falls in love with her cat. Deal with it. Don't make it weird. ****** Spoilers******* This is the story of graphic designer Kim Sol-A (played by the adorable Shin Ye-Eun ). She's not a cat person. Not in the least. Despite this, she always seems to find herself surrounded by "cats", including the boy she's been crushing on for a decade. Lee Jae-Sun (played by the sweet and shy-seeming Seo Ji-Hoon ) holds all his cards close to his chest (and he also just happens to be allergic to cats). He seems to reciprocate the feelings that the innocently sincere Sol-A has for him, but you can tell he has a hard time expressing himself. One day they plan to meet and it seems like they maybe will progr...

Bride of the Water God (Bride of Ha Baek 2017)

Image
Bride of the Water God (2017); a.k.a. Bride of Ha Baek (Spoilers below) This drama was one that I liked more the first time that I saw it. The second time, I just tended to notice more areas that it was lacking. I have read the Manhwa Bride of the Water God, and although the illustrations sere lovely, the story was not that compelling. This drama uses that story as a sort of back drop to this modern setting. Quick rundown of impressions: How much crying? Not too much really. How funny? The humor stands out weirdly, but there are some random moments that really just cracked me up. How ridiculous? Very. Very ridiculous. The ending seems very overblown. How cute? It has its moments. Mainly a few characters are adorable. How steamy? Although it's not overflowing, there are definitely some pretty steamy moments. It's probably the saving grace. Chemistry? The leads have a very awkward and mostly lacking chemistry, but I think that is more due to the writing and the natur...

Goblin; Guardian: The Lonely and Great God - ❤︎

Image
I LOVE GOBLIN. So much. Every time I recommend that someone watch K-Dramas, I always tell them to start with Goblin. To me, this has so far been my favorite out of them all. I've watched it multiple times and even bought the DVDs so I could look at it on my shelf. I bought the companion book, which is very very heavy and very very beautiful and very very in Korean. So, once I finally learn how to read and understand the language, I can appreciate the book even more. Goblin has so many of the things that make K-Dramas great. It has action, romance, tragedy, comedy... All the things that we have human beings have used since the dawn of time to both entertain ourselves and to understand each other. There is a timeless and tragic love affair at the center of this intricate plot of revenge, regret, and second chances. The cast that was chosen was superb. They perfectly fit their roles, in my opinion, and seemed to do so effortlessly. The leads both fell in love in such a sweet and...

The Pick-Up Line

Image
My first post here will be a simple one, as I will need some time to collect my thoughts and my ever-expanding list of all the things, people, and characters that I love. I will just say, however, that I am definitely a fangirl at heart. I always have been. It's easier for me to connect with a screen than with another person. It always has been. This blog won't contain any profound words of wisdom, just a lot of love. Please allow me to gush over the people I admire, although many of them are fictional, and all the shows that I love to lose myself in. Be prepared for a lot of BTS. And K-Dramas. Please be assured that I do respect the privacy of all real people involved and can very well distinguish between their public and personal lives. Here goes nothing.
